powerHull-GH adds resistance and power prediction features to your parametric power boat model.

powerHull-GH is a collection of Grasshopper components to perform resistance and power requrements prediction within a Grasshopper workflow. Attaching powerHull-GH to a parametric model or a stanadard Rhino3D NURBS model, one can preview resistance, power requirements as well as hull motions in real-time.


  • Metric or Imperial units.
  • Prismatic, semi-empirical methods: Savitsky, Savitsky win "M-Factor" (corrected for lower than planing speeds or planing hulls at "hump" region.
  • Regression methods: Series 62, Series 65
  • Appendage resistance including rudders, shafts, struts and trim tabs.
  • Air drag.
  • Results include: bare hull resistance, appendage resistance, air drag, margin resistance, total resistance, effective power, shaft power, total power, running trim angle, critical trim angle (limit for dynamic instabilities), special comments.
  • Attach the parameters of your Grasshopper parametric model or "link" it directly to your Rhino3D model
  • Combine powerHull-GH with Tunny or a similar Grasshopper optimization plugin to perform design parameters optimization (ex. optimize deadrise angle or chine beam for resistance)

To install the plugin, unzip the folder and copy it into the Grasshopper's "Components" folder. In order to find the "Components" folder click File/Special Folders menu item in Grasshopper. 

A sample workflow file is included in the zip folder.
