FALCON (Form-finding Algorithm for Linear Constrained Optimisation of Networks) is a set of User Custom Components for design and internal force evaluation of spatial truss structures in tension and compression. The components enable interactive constrained form-finding based on the iterated force density method.
Force, length, or unstrained length can be specified as constraints for network elements. In addition, an external load can be assigned to the nodes of the network. The interactivity of the tool is provided by an increased speed of the algorithm, which is based on optimising the accuracy for solving the system of linear equations at each iteration step (algorithm available in Python as well as in C++).
FALCON is an ongoing project by Elizabeta Šamec and Prof. Dr. Krešimir Fresl at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb. The tool was developed because of the lack of interactive tools for form-finding based on the force density method, especially those that allow the assignment of additional constraints.
